Press Release-INTACT Final Event: Outcomes and best practices for using sport and physical activity in trauma therapy approach for displaced children and youth

Intact physical activity

The importance of adventure in nature as a means of trauma therapy and inclusion for children and youths with migrant and refugee backgrounds was presented through tangible data, scientific tools, and best practices on February 25, during the final online event of the INTACT project. The event was organized through a collaboration of the Center for Social Action and Innovation (KMOP), Terre des hommes Hellas, and Adventure Therapy, attracting significant interest from a wide range of participants across the country.
Sports coaches and trainers, educators and youth workers, psychosocial support professionals, civil society organizations, students, and citizens were informed and engaged in discussions on trauma-informed care, inclusive sports, and child protection.

Activities implemented during the project and the training program developed in its context were presented, with particular emphasis placed on raising awareness of trauma-informed care (TIC) in sports and physical activity environments. At the same time, the contribution of Adventure Therapy as a structured method of psychosocial intervention was highlighted. The abovementioned topics provided an opportunity to foster dialogue among professionals directly connected to the field and once again highlighted the importance of promoting child protection.

The key project outcomes presented at the event included:

•    Increased awareness among professionals regarding trauma-informed care in the context of sport and physical activity.
•    Improved understanding of Adventure Therapy as a complementary psychosocial methodology for refugee children and youth.
•    Strengthened recognition of child protection as an integral part of inclusive sports programs.
•    Promotion of good practices and transferable recommendations for organizations working with vulnerable children, based on the project’s experience.

The event also served as a platform to promote the INTACT training program for coaches and sports professionals, encouraging the adoption and further dissemination of the project’s educational outcomes.
